Bestizo 2024 is the first red wine from Bodegas Emilio Moro in El Bierzo, made 100% with mencía. A wine that connects stories, bridges distances, and pays homage to the land of Bierzo with freshness, elegance, and Atlantic character.

Bestizo 2024 is made with mencía grapes grown in Villafranca del Bierzo. The soils are granitic with the presence of schist and slate, which impart minerality and complexity to the wine. The Atlantic climate, with continental influence, promotes balanced ripening. Viticulture is sustainable and respectful of the environment.
Fermentation takes place over 7 days in 25,000-liter tanks, with a 12-day maceration and submerged cap without pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks over 30 days. Subsequently, the wine ages for 8 months in 2,500-liter foudres before bottling.
A true benchmark in Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, applying their expertise, in the D.O. Bierzo. After debuting with the magnificent whites Polvorete, El Zarzal, and La Revelía, they launched Bestizo, their first red from Bierzo, reaffirming their commitment to innovation, sustainability, and respect for the terroir. With decades of experience and passion for wine, the Moro family embraces mencía as a symbol of evolution and connection with new lands.
Bestizo 2024 is an ideal red to pair with white meats, Iberian cured meats, semi-cured cheeses, light stews, and Atlantic cuisine dishes. Its freshness and fruitiness make it versatile and perfect for sharing at informal gatherings.
Clean and bright color. On the nose, it is intense and expressive, with ripe black fruits (blackberry, plum), fresh notes of red fruit (cherry, raspberry), floral touches, and a mineral slate background. On the palate, it is concentrated yet agile, with polished tannins, good acidity, and a savory texture. Long and persistent finish with fruity memories and an elegant earthy sensation.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is among the wineries that have most contributed to showcasing the excellence of Ribera del Duero wines beyond our borders. It is the story of a family of winemakers with a tradition spanning several generations, who have managed to position their wines among the most highly regarded worldwide; in fact, it was recently nominated for the Best European Winery award by the influential American magazine ‘Wine Enthusiast,’ which recognized it as the best in Spain. Located in Pesquera de Duero, in a privileged enclave of the Ribera del Duero, it is currently led by Javier Moro (president), heir to the love for wine of his grandfather and father, both named Emilio.
This Valladolid-based winery has always been committed to producing wines deeply connected to their terroir, convinced that it is the soil that gives them personality. It owns nearly 400 hectares of its own vineyards, planted and grafted with a clone of tempranillo recovered from its oldest vines, which undoubtedly provides fruits of extraordinary quality, with great color, character, and nuances. Among the most emblematic plots of the winery are Resalso (planted in 1933, the year Emilio Moro, father of the current owners, was born); Valderramiro, with the oldest vines of the winery and the cradle of the great wine Malleolus de Valderramiro; Sanchomartín and Camino Viejo, from which the red wine Malleolus is born.
In 2016, Bodegas Emilio Moro embarked on a new project, for the first time, outside Ribera del Duero, under the Bierzo designation of origin, where they have three labels. Since 2023, they have owned a winery in the area. Currently, they have over 60 hectares dedicated to the godello grape.
