Bardos Moradillo de Roa 2020 originates from small plots of old vines, between 80 and 90 years old, located in Moradillo de Roa (Burgos), an area with a long winemaking tradition - its historic wine cellars district, El Cotarro, dates back to the 15th century. This wine is born in one of the most unique locations of the Ribera del Duero: at 960 meters above sea level, on stony soils with a clay base, the vines endure extreme conditions that impart freshness, concentration, and a unique personality to the grapes.
Bardos Moradillo de Roa is made predominantly with tinta fina (tempranillo), complemented by garnacha, albillo mayor, bobal, monastrell, and graciano. The viticulture is artisanal, with manual harvesting and a deep respect for the environment, always seeking to reflect the essence of the terroir.
Regarding its production, fermentation takes place in a 9000 kg vat over three weeks at 28 ºC, followed by malolactic fermentation in a 5000-liter European oak vat. Subsequently, the wine ages for 12 months in the same vat, which provides structure, complexity, and a perfect integration between fruit and wood.
Bodegas De Bardos is a winery founded with the mission of capturing the essence of the most extreme landscapes of Castilla. In the Páramo de Corcos, where the cold bites and the sun scorches, the Vintae group crafts bold, honest, and soulful wines. Bardos Moradillo de Roa 2020 is the purest reflection of this philosophy: a village wine, high-altitude and full of character, ideal for pairing with red meats, roasted lamb, traditional stews, or aged cheeses.
With a very deep layer, Bardos Moradillo de Roa displays cherry tones with slight dark nuances of evolution on the rim, formed during its aging process. It shows great clarity and brightness in the glass. With an intense aromatic profile, it elegantly combines ripe fruit notes with oak nuances, highlighting tones of cocoa and dark chocolate. In the background, more complex notes of orange peel and certain aromatic plants can also be appreciated, along with a base of ripe plum. It exhibits a great structure, characteristic of Tinta Fina, though its entry is sweet and pleasant. The grape's power is enhanced by its interaction with oak, creating a sense of breadth that carries through on the palate. It reflects the maturity induced by the pebbles of the plateau, with the warmth accumulated by the sun during the day, generating that special warmth in the grape and those very pleasant tactile sensations.
