The area of Ribera del Duero situated in the province of Burgos is hailed by many wine lovers as the best part of this famous D.O. Perhaps that’s why in 2000 the powerful La Rioja Alta, S.A. group – creators of wines such as Viña Ardanza and Viña Alberdi, among others – chose this fabulous location to establish Bodegas Áster. There, in the municipality of Anguix, it built a château where it makes, among others, the outstanding red that’s featured in our November Monthly Selection: Áster Finca El Caño Reserva 2020.
Áster Finca El Caño Reserva 2020 is a spectacular single-varietal made specially for us from Tempranillo grapes and matured to perfection for 12 months in French oak. This mouth-filling, well-structured wine comes from one of the best vintages of the past decade in Ribera del Duero, that of 2020, which was rated Excellent by the regulatory board.
Its sensory characteristics make Áster Finca El Caño Reserva 2020 a fantastic choice for pairing with dishes such as roast lamb or tripe Madrid style.
Áster Finca El Caño Reserva 2020 displays an attractive cherry-red colour with a garnet rim and very intense pigmentation.
Fine, intense nose with predominant aromas of ripe red fruit and liquor together with floral notes (violet), red liquorice, spices and pleasant toasty background notes.
Balanced, savoury, moreish, full and ripe on the attack with an elegant, supple mid-palate and nicely integrated tannins. Long, mouth-coating finish.
