General Information

As 2 Ladeiras Godello Selección 2023 is not far behind in quality compared to the 2016 vintage, which achieved a rating of 93 Parker points. Bodegas Viña Somoza crafts its most authentic godello from the fruits of its best vineyards, up to 35 years old, located at an altitude of between 500 and 640 meters on the slopes of the Bibei and Xares rivers. After the manual harvest of the grapes, the winemaking process in the winery included fermentation in vats and French oak barrels, at controlled temperature and with spontaneous yeasts, followed by 10 months of aging on fine lees in these same containers.

As 2 Ladeiras Godello Selección 2023 is the quintessential white wine of the D.O. Valdeorras. A limited production wine that shows a magnificent evolution in the bottle and is ideal to enjoy with cheeses, foie, white fish, sushi, lobster, salads, and brothy rice dishes.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Viña Somoza is a small winery established in 2000 in the town of A Rúa de Valdeorras (Orense). Its founder, Víctor Fernández, revived the area's native vineyards and, with these resources and a winemaking approach based on the fusion of tradition and modernity, set out to craft unique wines that keep the Galician essence alive.

The winery, which in 2015 became the property of a sole owner, boasts 15 hectares of vineyards spread across the estates of Redondo, Pedrazais, and Veguiña. The vines, aged between 30 and 60 years, grow on hillside soils composed of slate and granitic sands, nourished by the Sil River. This rich terroir, combined with the microclimate they enjoy, produces excellent raw materials that result in some of the best godellos in Spain.

Bodegas Viña Somoza also exports its wines beyond Spain to countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, and Germany.
