General Information

Abadía de San Quirce 6 Meses 2023 is made from tempranillo grapes sourced from selected vineyards aged between 25 and 35 years, planted as bush vines in the areas of Gumiel de Izán and La Aguilera (Burgos), at an average altitude of 825 m. These vineyards cover an area of 25 hectares, with yields of 4,600 kg/ha, and are meticulously cultivated to achieve the best fruits: green pruning, cluster thinning, and manual harvesting.

The clusters were hand-selected, and after destemming, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26 º - 28 º C. The resulting wine was aged for 6 months in American and French oak barrels and an additional 6 months in the bottle. The result is a fantastic red wine that has already been awarded silver medals at the Decanter 2023 and USA Wine Ratings 2024 competitions.

Bodegas Abadía San Quirce was established in 1998, founded by a group of entrepreneurs and winegrowers connected to the Ribera del Duero. That same year, the construction of the winery began in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos), one of the areas with the greatest winemaking tradition in the region, known for its century-old vineyards and extraordinary quality. Since its inception, the winery has been firmly committed to excellence, producing wines that faithfully reflect the characteristics of the soil and the native grape varieties of the area.

Bodegas Abadía San Quirce owns 21 hectares of vineyards of the tinta fina (tempranillo) variety, distributed across the areas of Aranda de Duero and La Aguilera. Additionally, it oversees another 80 hectares of the same variety in the villages of Gumiel de Izán and La Aguilera. All the vineyards are planted as bush vines, following the region's tradition. The vines range in age from 25 years to over a century, including pre-phylloxera vines planted in 1900. These century-old vines are rooted in numerous plots with different soil types - sandy, limestone, and clay-loam - allowing for diverse tempranillo profiles.
