General information
The vineyards that supplied the grapes for Marqués de la Concordia Rioja Santiago Reserva 2016 are located in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, in the northwest corner of Spain's most prestigious Denominación. The vines grow at an altitude of 650 m above sea level in poor calcareous clay soils. The winemaking process involved intense maceration to extract plenty of colour and ensure a good structure. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine was aged for 24 months in French and American barrels.
Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines belongs to The Haciendas Company group, originally from Rioja. Under this brand, the group markets high-end wines produced in different wine regions. In Rioja, Marqués de la Concordia has vineyards in the three sub-zones of the Denominación.
The name of the winery is a tribute to José Abascal (1743-1821), Marqués de la Concordia de Perú, who in his role as viceroy of Peru spearheaded social reform, the transfer of knowledge and harmonious co-operation between Creoles and Spaniards.
Marqués de la Concordia Rioja Santiago Reserva 2016 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs perfectly with lamb hotpot or oxtail stew.
Creators’ opinion
"Intense depth of colour, cherry red to ruby. Initial aromas of ripe wild berries, resiny notes and subtle notes of toast, cedar and palisander. On the palate it's concentrated and harmonious, with a distinctive but well-integrated acidity. Structured, full-bodied, oaky and long-lasting."
