Lan Reserva 2017
The exclusive version of an essential Rioja
LAN is among the most iconic Rioja wineries and one of the firms that have contributed to the growth and recognition of this Denominación. We’re privileged to be able to bring you an exclusive Lan Reserva for which we selected the best batches and barrels of the 2017 vintage in close collaboration with the winery. Lan Reserva 2017 combines notes of ripe fruit and spices on the nose, and is full-bodied and very expressive on the palate, with well-balanced toasty notes, round and silky tannins and a fruity finish with cocoa and morello cherries in liqueur. Very harmonious and long-lasting.
General information
Lan Reserva 2017 comes from a vintage that was marked by a limited production due to historic frosts, though highly stable weather conditions at the end of the cycle resulted in superb quality. It's made from Tempranillo grapes with a touch of Mazuelo, harvested by hand.
The varieties were fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasted 10 days, during which time the must was pumped over to ensure that it came into contact with the grape skins and to allow a slow, natural extraction of aromas and polyphenols. Malolactic fermentation was carried out in tanks. The wine was finally aged for 19 months in French (50%) and American (50%) oak, followed by 22 months in the bottle.
Founded in 1972 in Fuenmayor (Rioja Alta), Bodegas LAN is a classic among the great Rioja wineries. A pioneer in modernisation (for example, it was a forerunner in the use of mixed French and American oak barrels), it boasts impressive facilities and one of the most commercially successful ranges of wines, with a strong market presence. There’s no doubt that it's one of the Rioja firms most acclaimed by consumers for its consistently high quality and excellent value for money.
At LAN they’ve always been convinced that winemaking begins with grape growing, as evidenced by their commitment to the vineyards they own on the Viña Lanciano estate: 72 hectares of magnificent vineyards divided into 24 plots, which constitute the winery's main asset. LAN is currently part of the Sogrape company, one of the most important Portuguese multinationals on the international wine scene.
Lan Reserva 2017 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs wonderfully with Asturian bean stew (fabada) beef ragout and semi-cured cheeses.
CATA's notes
Very bright, ripe cherry colour with reddish tinges.
The nose develops aromas of ripe fruit, with well-integrated notes from the wood such as spices, cinnamon and clove. Full, very expressive on the attack with initial, well-balanced toasty notes and round, silky tannins that envelop the wine and give way to a fruity finish of cocoa and morello cherries in liqueur.
Very harmonious and long lasting.
