Vinoselección brings you a wine made by a landmark winery of the D.O. Somontano, Viñas del Vero. La Miranda de Secastilla 2017 is a fantastic red that embodies the innovative spirit which has always characterised this winery. Indeed, the firm’s very first wines made in the early 90s clearly reflected this focus on experimentation, especially with the Garnacha variety. With this declaration of intent, the firm not only spearheaded the recovery of this long-reviled grape variety but became a perfect example of its successful adaptation to this winegrowing area – so much so that nowadays in the Somontano Garnacha is synonymous with Viñas del Vero’s magnificent wines.

The vineyards of the valley of Secastilla lie in the north-easternmost part of the Somontano, where their considerable altitude – 700 metres above sea level – and orientation create a special ‘Mediterranean microclimate’ that is undoubtedly conducive to the perfect ripening of the grapes. In this valley, with sandy-loam and fairly stony soils, Viñas del Vero grows 48 hectares of vines, predominantly Garnacha complemented with Syrah and also Parraleta, a very typical local variety – a combination that is faithfully reflected in the coupage of this La Miranda de Secastilla 2017 we are offering you.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet La Miranda de Secastilla 2017

Gorgeous shade of cherry-red with purplish-red at the edge, good depth of colour.

Intense, fragrant nose with aromas of ripe red (cherry, raspberry) and black fruit (plum), cocoa, liquorice, notes of spice, floral notes (violet) and slight touches of aniseed. Big, structured and meaty in the mouth with polished tannins and an intense, perfumed mid-palate that develops into a long, pleasing finish in which the aromas of red fruit and cocoa carry through.

This wine makes a perfect accompaniment to game dishes such as char-grilled loin of venison or partridge with red cabbage and chestnuts.
