General information
Bodegas Bilbaínas is a standard bearer and one of the most iconic winemakers with the best track records in Spain. Founded in 1901 and based in the heart of the legendary Station District of Haro, the firm – thanks to a group of entrepreneurs from Bilbao who acquired the winery Sauvignon Frères et Cie – has established an unmistakeable style and has gradually carved out a reputation as a leading name in the D.O.Ca. Rioja.
Since being sold to the prestigious Codorníu Raventós group in 1997, nearly a quarter of a century on Bodegas Bilbaínas has extensively revamped its image and the style of its wines, including the refurbishment of the old winery facilities by architect Domingo Trías. Now’s your chance to sample the products of a living legend in the wine world. Much of Bodegas Bilbaínas’ success lies in its raw materials: its exceptional vineyards, especially the Viña Pomal estate – 120 hectares of vines cultivated since the beginning of last century. From this unique estate comes the red we’re now offering you exclusively, Viña Pomal Club Reserva 2017, a wine with a predominantly classical and authentic style, pure Rioja character, with superb fruity flavours and notes from carefully selected American oak.
CATA's notes
Displays a gorgeous deep cherry-red colour.
Complex, expressive nose with prominent aromas of ripe fruit along with spicy notes and balsamic overtones, and nicely integrated background notes of fine woods.
Good structure, full, tasty and beautifully balanced. A red with an acidic edge, fine tannins and an aromatic mid-palate. Long finish with pleasant balsamic flavours.
