Cune Crianza 2018
The power of a great wine from Rioja
Founded in 1879, CVNE is one of the oldest wineries in Spain, producer of some of the most important classics in Spanish wine and has a strong international presence. Cune Crianza 2018 is an essential benchmark. Made with the noble tempranillo grape together with a small contribution from the garnacha and mazuelo varieties, all picked from the best parcels in the Rioja Alta region. Aged twelve months.
General information
The first wine that was produced in the Bodega de Haro from the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España was bottled under the Cvne name and made in the claret style of Bordeaux’s Medoc. The Cvne wines evolved until they became today’s Cune Crianza, formerly known as Tercer Año, or Third Year.Cune Crianza 2018 is made from vines planted in different locations in the Rioja Alta region, offering a diversity of soil types, directions and ages. Near CVNE, this setting ensures that the grape arrives at the winery quickly and in the best condition for production. After the harvest is fermented at a controlled temperature with the aim of preserving the fruity expression that Crianza is known for, it incubates for approximately twelve days in stainless steel vats, where the malolactic fermentation begins. Later, the wine is aged for twelve months in American oak barrels, where it acquires its cherished bouquet.
In 1884, the Real de Asúa brothers and Isidro Corcuera decided to build a large winery in the La Estación neighbourhood of Haro (La Rioja). And thus, they constructed a complex of beautiful buildings in the industrial architectural style of the nineteenth century, with aging cellars made of stone masonry, adobe bricks, oak posts and poplar beams. At that time, Haro was the capital of Rioja wine, and Cvne was one of the first brands to establish itself in the famous wine producing enclave.
Today, Cvne is a global benchmark in the wine sector. Half of the grapes come from Cvne’s own vineyards and the rest are acquired through contracts with growers of the best vines of the Qualified appellation Rioja. Gathered from the vineyards of the Rioja Alta region, the grapes become the Imperial line of red wines, the winery’s flagship since the 1920s, and the wines produced under the Cune label. The Bodega de Haro is composed of a complex of buildings that date to the nineteenth century and that today are completely modern and fitted with the most state-of-the-art production systems. Cune was one of the first wineries in La Rioja to bottle. In 1900, it already had an extraordinary aging capacity of 80,000 bottles, something out of the ordinary in this time period as it was typical to dispatch wine as soon as possible.
CATA's notes
Beautiful and young garnet colour with blueish rim.
Nice aromatic intensity where red fruits and notes of liquorice stand out, in perfect balance with the toasted and vanilla hints from the American oak.
A touch of sweetness with silky, pleasant tannins and an agreeable finish.
