Torelló Blanc Tranquille 2023 is a young white wine from the Torelló brand, distinguished by its freshness, lightness, and floral character. It is made with xarel·lo, macabeo, parellada, and muscat grapes from vines planted on clay and limestone soils of the family estate Can Martí, located in the heart of Penedès, under a typically Mediterranean climate. Organic farming, a one hundred percent manual harvest, and its fermentation in stainless steel tanks are the keys to this young white that faithfully expresses the aromas of each variety.

General Information

Torelló Blanc Tranquille 2023 is a young wine produced by the Torelló winery from the most common white varieties in the Penedès: xarel·lo, macabeo, parellada, and muscat. A meticulous selection of bunches of these white varieties was carried out in the estate's own vineyards located at the Can Martí family estate, the nerve center of the Torelló winery, in the town of Gelida, in the upper Penedès.

The hand-picked grapes are transported in 25 kg boxes as quickly as possible to the winery, aiming for them to be in the pressing area within 15 minutes to avoid oxidation, thus providing the wine with the maximum aromatic expression. Regarding the production, after a gentle pressing of each variety separately, the first fraction, of higher quality, is used, and the obtained must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.

Located on the Can Martí estate, the Torelló winery has been owned by the family since 1395, but its first bottle of wine was marketed in 1951. Already in the 21st century, the winery continues to work hard to be one of the benchmarks of the Penedès Denomination of Origin. Currently, the winery has this 135-hectare estate, where they organically cultivate different high-quality native and foreign varieties. Among the white grapes, they cultivate macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent. As for the red varieties, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah stand out.

With work based on organic farming, Torelló Blanc Tranquille 2023 is framed within the D.O. Penedès. A magnificent young white that pairs with all kinds of appetizers, cheeses, salads, fried and breaded dishes, and fish stews.

Tasting notes

Torelló Blanc Tranquille displays a new golden yellow color with yellow-greenish reflections, light in the glass, clean and bright.

On the nose, it has a delicate aromatic intensity, fresh, with hints of white flowers, peach tree, herbs like fennel, wildflower with a touch of cooked fruit such as caramelized apple.

On the palate, it is pleasant, light, with a certain acidity masked by the fruit. It has a good finish, where we find aromas of fennel and wildflower.

The winery

The family history begins in the year 1395 at the Can Martí estate and its farmhouses. And it will be 22 generations later, in the year 1951, when the surname Torelló appears, one of the reference families in the cava sector in our country.

The Can Martí estate is the nerve center of Torelló's vineyards and cellars, located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, considered by all as the heart and capital of cava.

The Can Martí estate covers 135 hectares in the fertile Penedès region. It cultivates white grape varieties such as macabeo, xarel·lo, parellada, chardonnay, and subirat parent, as well as red grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, and syrah.

For the production of cavas, Torelló selects only vines over 30 years old. This is done to ensure consistency and quality in the harvest.

The soils have a clay-limestone mix and are poor in organic matter. Pruning is done short to control vineyard yield and grape quality. As for the climate, it is typically Mediterranean, with an average temperature of 16 ºC and rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn.

For less than a decade, the Torelló winery has begun a process of converting its vineyards to organic viticulture, but in truth, they have been practicing environmentally friendly methods for many more years.
