D.O. Somontano
The Somontano Designation of Origin was founded in 1984 and covers the production of wines in 43 municipalities located in the Somontano region (Huesca), around the town of Barbastro. This denomination was characterized since its inception for its innovative commitment and for the introduction of international grape varieties, such as chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. A total of 15 grape varieties are accepted, with reds being the majority in the vineyards.
Protected by the D.O. Somontano white, rosé and red wines are made. The most prominent whites are those made with the Chardonnay grape. As for the reds, those made with international grapes stand out, sometimes mixed with local grapes. We also find traditional reds made with local grapes such as moristel, tempranillo and parraleta.
