In the largest wine-growing region in the world, Castilla-La Mancha (which is home to around 600,000 hectares of vineyards) is the geographical indication Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla, approved in 1999 to cover all wines produced outside the Denominations of Origin of this region, in any of its five provinces (Cuenca, Albacete, Guadalajara, Toledo and Ciudad Real).
