Real de Asúa 2020 is a great Rioja of limited production made exclusively from a selection of tempranillo fruits ripened in the own vineyards of CVNE at the Carromaza estate, located at an altitude of 530-555 meters in Villalba (Rioja Alta), under the protection of the Sierra de Cantabria.
After a meticulous double selection process, both in the vineyard and in the winery, the whole grapes undergo cold maceration and light crushing. Subsequently, they are transferred to French oak vats where alcoholic fermentation takes place with native yeasts. After racking into new French oak barrels, malolactic fermentation occurs followed by wine aging for refinement, which lasts for 12 months. The result is a red wine of great intensity marked by aromas of forest fruits along with the spicy and balsamic notes typical of aging. A wine with a smooth palate and perfectly balanced tannins with creaminess, leaving a fresh and long aftertaste, with fruity sensations mixed with sweet spices, and a pleasant touch of acidity.
The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) is one of the international reference wineries. Within the original winery located in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro, CVNE decided to build independent facilities for the vinification of Real de Asúa 2020, a red wine under the D.O.Ca. Rioja designation that is only made in exceptional vintages and pairs perfectly with intensely flavored meats and even desserts.
In appearance, it presents a cherry red color with bluish hues.
On the aromatic phase, it shows itself as elegant, intense, and very complex, with aromas of forest fruits (blueberries, currants), licorice, and notes derived from its time in French oak such as clove, smoky hints, roasted notes, and toffes.
On the palate, it is elegant, balanced, and well-structured; with high-quality tannins perfectly integrated with the wine's creaminess. It has a journey with good fruity presence and excellent acidity. Very good final persistence marked by spicy notes.
The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España is one of the great symbols of the Estación de Haro neighborhood, the great capital of Rioja wine. Founded in 1879 by the brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, CVNE (as it is known worldwide) can proudly claim to have remained at the top throughout its history. Ten years after its creation, the winery inaugurated an impressive barrel hall designed by the studio of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. By 1900, it was already producing nearly 80,000 bottles, an unthinkable feat for the time. The 20th century established CVNE as an institution of Spanish wine.
Over 140 years, it has successfully combined tradition and innovation to create wines that today are the standard-bearers of Rioja reds and have garnered international critical acclaim. Its Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 made history when it was chosen as Wine of the Year 2013 by the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator, marking the first time a Spanish wine received this recognition.
Since its foundation, CVNE has expanded its heritage and grown with avant-garde projects at different times in its history, such as the creation of Viñedos del Contino or Viña Real.
