Gran Colegiata Reserva 2015

Month's Selection August 2020

One of the best Toro Reservas, with an unbeatable discount

The D.O. Toro is currently one of Spain’s leading wine regions, hailed by critics and experts as the new Mecca of Spanish reds. The key to its success lies partly in its century-old vineyards – select plots that did not succumb to the destruction of the Europe-wide phylloxera epidemic in the nineteenth century and have survived to the present day. But the unstoppable rise Toro has witnessed in recent decades also owes much to the work and determination of a winery that is firmly committed to these soils and their vines, grapes and wines: Bodegas Fariña

This firm is offering us one of its best wines for an incredible price: the sensational Gran Colegiata Reserva 2015, a superb, powerful red made solely from the Tinta de Toro variety that is native to this region.

Buy it and enjoy one of the great wines of the D.O. Toro at a unique price.

THE WINERY: Fariña is the leading winery in the D.O. Toro, the only one that has been around since the establishment of the Denominación and one of the firms responsible for the huge qualitative leap its wines have made in recent years. In fact, Manuel Fariña, a member of the second generation of the family, spurred the creation of the Denominación de Origen. He turned the region’s harsh, alcoholic reds into aromatic, tasty and powerful wines.

AREA OF PRODUCTION: The D.O. Toro is notable for its vines dating from before the phylloxera epidemic and winemaking tradition that can be traced back to before the Romans settled there. The region stretches across the river Duero basin, which crosses the centre of the Peninsula from east to west, and the D.O. lies to the south.
