Since the 1990s, Cillar de Silos has been one of the pioneering wineries in revitalising the Ribera del Duero region. At their second winery, Dominio del Pidio, the Aragón García family produce only village wines originating from Quintana del Pidio (Burgos). This one Dominio del Pidio Rosado 2024, is a vibrant and elegant wine, the result of a blend of Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) and Albillo Mayor grapes from very old vines. Five months in French oak barrels added complexity without diminishing its freshness. Intense notes of fresh fruit on the nose, and vibrant and straightforward on the palate, with marked acidity, a fruity sensation and a finish in which the barrel ageing is noticeable.
Dominio del Pidio Rosado 2024 is the result of a combination of the red Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) and the white Albillo Mayor varieties. The vines that produce it are up to 100 years old and are located in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos) at an altitude of 880 metres, in loamy and sandy soils, yielding only 2,400 kg per hectare.
Half of the grapes were fermented in concrete tanks and the other half in French oak barrels. The resulting white wine was then aged for five months on the lees in French oak barrels in 16th-century underground cellars.
Cillar de Silos is one of the wineries that have been revitalising the Ribera del Duero region since the 1990s. It is an established firm in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos), founded by Amalio Aragón and now run by his sons Roberto and Óscar Aragón. The first Cillar de Silos wines were released in 1995, and since then, the winery has continued to grow in quality and recognition.
Dominio del Pidio is the second winery set up by the family and is devoted exclusively to producing village wines. The first was the 2014 vintage made exclusively from grapes grown in Quintana del Pidio, while Cillar de Silos also works with vineyards in nearby villages such as Gumiel de Mercado.
Through both wineries, the family has been one of the main advocates of the Albillo Mayor grape and the white wines made in the area. The result is the extraordinary Dominio del Pidio Rosado 2024, which is ideal with seafood, rice dishes and even pizza.
Creators' opinion
Dominio del Pidio Rosado is a fresh wine with pronounced aromas of red fruit and hints of ripe peach that give way to rosemary, star anise and local herbs. On the palate, it's crisp, vibrant and straightforward. With a marked acidity as its main thread. Fruity sensations, with the four months of barrel ageing on the lees appearing in the finish. A slightly bitter touch to make the wine even longer and a herby finish.
Cillar de Silos is one of the wineries that has revitalized Ribera del Duero since the 1990s. A winery established in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos), founded by Amalio Aragón, who in the 1970s, against the trend of his fellow villagers, began gathering the best plots of old tempranillo vineyards in the area instead of uprooting them. This is a privileged area for this variety, located at an altitude of almost 900 m, where the tempranillo benefits from a slow ripening process. The first wines of Cillar de Silos were released in 1995. Since then, the winery has continued to grow in quality and recognition.

This winery debuted with the 2014 vintage and only produces grapes from Quintana del Pidio, while Cillar de Silos also works with vineyards from nearby villages, such as Gumiel de Mercado.
