General information

One of the best Ribera del Duero Crianzas

PradoRey Finca Valdelayegua Crianza 2018 reflects the personality of the Castilian landscape and embodies the essence of the magnificent vineyards located in the area of Gumiel de Mercado (Burgos), where the star grape variety, Tempranillo, achieves a fullness of expression rarely found in other parts of Spain. This Ribera is fruity, fresh and silky. It was made in the Royal Site of Ventosilla, the largest estate in Ribera del Duero that is home to PradoRey, a cutting-edge winery that’s a leading name in the area.

Pradorey Finca Valdeyegua Crianza 2018 is designed from grapes selected from the plot after which it is named, Valdelayegua, located at an altitude of between 790 and 820 metres on gentle, south-facing slopes close to the Duero and Gromejón rivers. The Tempranillo grapes predominant in the blend are grown here: Quintana clone chosen from century-old vines, small, loosely clustered berries with greater concentration; and also Merlot, which accounts for 4% of the wine. The grapes were picked by hand. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts at a controlled temperature (28º) and malolactic fermentation in 20,000-litre Nevers wood cones, followed by 12 months in French and American oak barrels and a further 3 months in Nevers wood cones. The resulting Ribera has a superb fruity character, good structure and smooth tannins.

The Royal Site of Ventosilla was established as an agricultural and livestock estate and hunting ground in 1503 in Gumiel de Mercado (Burgos), and since 1989 it has been the centre of operations of Bodegas y Viñedos Pradorey, founded by entrepreneur Javier Cremades. Its facilities are equipped with the latest technology and it owns one of the biggest vineyards in the D.O. Ribera del Duero: the estate spans 3,000 hectares (the largest of its kind north of Madrid), 520 of which are given over to cultivating vines. The vineyard is divided into various plots according to microclimate, altitude and composition of the soil.

Pradorey Finca Valdeyegua Crianza 2018 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is perfect with kid hotpot or lamb and potato stew.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Pradorey Finca Valdelayegua 2018

Gorgeous cherry/garnet-red colour with a slightly brick-red edge and medium-high intensity of colour.

The nose is notable for its fragrance and aromatic intensity. Initial touches of an elegant, delicate aroma from reduction (musk) give way to pronounced notes of jammy red fruits such as cherries and blueberries, followed by hints of spicy (green pepper) and slightly smoky undertones and ending with clearly distinguishable balsamic notes that bring to mind green tea and aromas of eucalyptus and broom.

Big, meaty attack with very good structure. The palate is notably fruity, with ripe, mouth-watering and very varietal tannins that give it a velvety, full and very ripe mouthfeel. Full-bodied, with a lingering and powerful finish in which red fruit and balsamic notes are predominant.
