General information

Wine takes you places. You can be at home having lunch, chatting to someone, or just gazing out of the window at the rain but there are always aromas and flavours that transport you to another place in a matter of seconds. That’s just what Sonsierra Reserva 2014 does, an elegant, complex red for keeping that will conjure up sensations of being in the middle of a Rioja vineyard sheltered by the Cantabrian mountains and with the church of Santa María la Mayor in San Vicente de la Sonsierra dominating the landscape.

Bodegas Sonsierra, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, was founded in 1962 at the initiative of a group of local grape growers who decided to pool their vineyards to make their dream come true: to create a great winery in Rioja Alta. Bodegas Sonsierra is still a partnership today and the wines it produces are made solely from grapes grown in its own vineyards: 570 hectares, all in the same village.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Sonsierra 2014

In the glass, it has a beautiful ripe cherry red color with slightly tiled edging, with a medium high layer.

Elegant and complex in the nose in which aromas of forest fruits (strawberry, blueberry and blackberry) are appreciated along with spicy notes (pepper and oregano) and touches of cocoa; all in perfect harmony in a nice reduction background (leather and jelly).

The palate is enveloping, with a soft and well-melted tannin. It closes with a long finish marked by vanilla memories.
