General information

Glorious Tempranillo from San Vicente de la Sonsierra

The Grandes Reservas of Rioja, long-established icons of excellence, continue to delight critics and public alike. They are wines that are designed to last, like Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2013, made wholly from Tempranillo grapes from San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where they grow exceptionally well.

Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2013 was grown on vines more than 30 years old in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, an area whose wines are renowned for their superb expression of Tempranillo grapes, the only variety used to make this red. Aged for 24 months in carefully selected French oak barrels, it was subsequently matured for a long period in the bottle. It has been awarded high scores by international critics. Bodegas Sonsierra, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, was founded in 1962 at the initiative of a group of local grape growers who decided to pool their vineyards to make their dream come true: to create a great winery in Rioja Alta. Bodegas Sonsierra is still a partnership today and the wines it produces are made solely from grapes grown in its own vineyards: 570 hectares, all in the same village. Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2013 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is perfect with lamb hotpot or fillet of pork with a forest fruit sauce.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Sonsierra 2013

In the glass, it has a beautiful ripe cherry red color with slightly tiled edging, with a medium high layer.

Elegant and complex in the nose in which aromas of forest fruits (strawberry, blueberry and blackberry) are appreciated along with spicy notes (pepper and oregano) and touches of cocoa; all in perfect harmony in a nice reduction background (leather and jelly).

The palate is enveloping, with a soft and well-melted tannin. It closes with a long finish marked by vanilla memories.
