General information

Love at First Sight

Ramón Bilbao Crianza is possibly the best-known wine in the Spanish restaurant sector. For decades its superb quality has lent well deserved credibility to both the winery and the rest of the wines it makes. This 2015 vintage is an absolute must-have.

Founded in 1924 by the Bilbao Murga family, Ramón Bilbao is one of the wineries with the longest history in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Throughout its 90 years of existence, it has taken part in and keenly promoted the change witnessed in the Spanish wine market by applying the principles of modern oenology and viticulture. The secret of its success lies not only in its perfect interpretation of the terroir of Rioja but in the basis that underpins the whole process: its own 75 hectares of vineyards and its arrangement with local grape growers on whose 400 hectares of scrupulously monitored and tended vines it also relies. The quality of its wines was recently recognised when it was named Best Spanish Winery at the IWSC (International Wine & Spirit Competition) and won the silver medal at the latest Bacchus International wine competition in 2014.

Garnet-cherry red with good depth.

Aromas of good intensity in the nose, with notes of ripe fruit in season, sweet spices, balsam (eucalyptus), tobacco and fine woods and toasty undertones, highly complex. Enveloping , moreish palate with excellent balance and good acidy.

Fresh, with a smooth, silky mouthfeel, fine, ripe tannins and an expressive, complex finish that beautifully combines fruity aromas with notes from ageing.

Good with red meats, mature cheeses, seasoned and spicy dishes, and casseroled game
