General information

The quintessence of Rioja

Bodegas Franco-Españolas is a leading name among Spain’s historic wineries and one of the few firms with a 130-year track record of making fine wines. Its wine Rioja Bordón first came out in the 1950s. Now we’re offering you Bordón Reserva 2015, a red that represents the traditional Rioja style but with a more modern twist, notable in the balance between fruit and wood.

In accordance with local tradition, several grape varieties were used to make Bordón Reserva 2015: 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and 5% Mazuelo. The vineyards are located in the three subzones of Rioja with different types of soils: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental (the eastern part) on the mountain slopes of the Sierra de la Demanda. After the grapes were sorted and underwent traditional vinification, the wine was aged in medium-toast American white oak (from Ohio) and French oak barrels for 18 months. It was then further matured in the bottle.

Bodegas Franco-Españolas is a big name among Spain’s historic wineries. Founded in 1890 by Frenchman Frederick Anglade together with his Spanish partners (hence the name ‘Franco-Españolas’), today it is completely Spanish and has been owned by the Eguizábal family since 1983. Bodegas Franco-Españolas appeals to today’s consumers yet respects the winery’s historic legacy. Its elegantly designed facilities occupy 59,000 square metres in the heart of Logroño, and its underground cellars are home to 15,000 barrels.

Bordón Reserva 2015 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with char-grilled meats, Asturian bean stew (fabada) and roast beef.
