General information

Age-old Riojan tradition and state-of-the-art technology applied to winemaking combine to produce Valcendon Crianza 2014, an elegant, tasty and highly balanced red grown on the slopes of the Yerga mountain.

Valcendon Crianza 2014 is an exceptional Crianza grown on the slopes of the Yerga mountains by one of the families with the longest winemaking tradition in Rioja. Back in 1886 the ancestors of Mateo Ruiz Moreno, a seventh-generation member of a family who have wine in their blood, planted their first vines there, at the heart of Rioja Baja. Today Bodegas D. Mateos is one of the region’s mainstays thanks to its uncompromising pursuit of excellence in one of the most innovative wineries of Rioja.

Valcendon Crianza 2014 is made from a typically Riojan blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Just the right amount of ageing – 14 months in French and American oak barrels – has turned it into an elegant, tasty and highly balanced red.

Bodegas D. Mateos started out back in 1886, when a young couple from Aldeanuela de Ebro, in Rioja Baja, decided to plant a vineyard on the slopes of the Yerga mountain. Today the seventh generation of the family, headed by Mateo Ruiz Moreno, run a winery that owns more than 100 hectares of vineyards – which is fairly unusual in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The winery’s new premises were built in 1999 and there Mateo and his team, besides making their own wine, regularly collaborate on several research, development and innovation projects with the Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de La Rioja. Valcendon Crianza 2014 is ideal with red meats, Asturian bean stew (fabada), mature cheeses and tripe.
