The mountainous region of Montsant in Tarragona borders the renowned Priorat and shares its two main grape varieties: cariñena and garnacha. In 2003, visionary Albert Jané set his course here after leaving the family winery Jané Ventura. Since its inception, he has achieved success with the wines produced at the ‘boutique’ winery Acústic Celler. Acústic 2020 is a blend of old vines with a subtle aging of 11 months in French oak that does not mask the varietal expressiveness. A wine that honors the region and traditional viticulture.

Acústic 2020 is a ‘coupage’ of 70% cariñena and 30% Garnacha. The first provides color and structure, while the second adds finesse and fruit. A wine that its author defines –and names– as acoustic, unadorned, because it seeks to reflect the soul of the terroir, to uphold traditional viticulture, and the character of native grapes: “roots against globalization and wines full of technology.”
It is sourced from various old vines, aged between 35 and 65 years, located in the areas of Els Guiamets, Marçà, Capçanes, Cornudella del Montsant, and El Masroig, situated at altitudes between 300 and 700 m. The vines grow in poor, arid soils with abundant stones and a combination of clay, sand, and pebbles.
The winemaking process respects the varietal expressiveness as much as possible. Maceration lasts between 10 and 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, and finally, the wine is aged in lightly toasted French oak barrels (1st and 2nd use) for 10-11 months. It is neither filtered nor clarified to preserve its purest identity.
Albert Jané comes from one of the most renowned wine families in Catalonia, the Jané family (Jané Ventura winery, D.O. Penedès). At the beginning of the 21st century, he set out in search of the best vineyards to start his own project, deciding that the Montsant region in Tarragona was the ideal place due to the value of its old local grape vines, an area few invested in at the time. Here, he began purchasing old vineyards of samsó (cariñena) and garnacha, varieties that were nearly forgotten. Today, he owns 54 hectares (42 hectares owned) of old vineyards.
Albert named his project Acústic Celler (2003), a winery that fits within the ‘boutique’ concept due to its small size and very limited production. His first wine, Auditori, already received significant critical acclaim.
Acústic 2020 (D.O. Montsant
Descendant of one of the most renowned wine sagas in Catalonia, the Jané family, who began their winemaking journey in 1914, Albert embarked on his own adventure seeking the diversity offered by the lands of Montsant. Since 2003, he has been acquiring old vineyards of native varieties to produce unique wines that respect the terroir. Starting in 2010, Acustic Celler has a new winery where Albert carries out the winemaking process for his wines.
