Abel Mendoza Tempranillo Grano a Grano 2020 is a red wine produced by the Abel Mendoza winery with a meticulous selection of Tempranillo grapes from the Gallocanto and La Nava plots. Vines over 50 years old, located in the municipality of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where the clusters were hand-harvested and destemmed, followed by a grain-by-grain selection, to create a fantastic single-varietal wine that stands out for its intense and elegant aromas of truffle, vanilla, and ripe fruit.
The Abel Mendoza winery was founded in 1988 in the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja Alta) by the couple Abel Mendoza and his wife Maite Fernández (oenologist). Currently, the winery has 20 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards, located on the left bank of the Ebro River. Abel Mendoza meticulously tends his vines with the utmost respect for nature, endowing them with personality and crafting soulful wines like this Abel Mendoza Tempranillo Grano a Grano.
With limited production and indisputable quality, Abel Mendoza Tempranillo Grano a Grano 2020 is a red wine from the D.O.Ca. Rioja aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, giving it an ideal structure to pair with game meats, Iberian ham, gazpacho manchego, and legume stews.
It displays a garnet color and ripe cherry.
On the nose, it offers a high aromatic intensity, revealing aromas of truffle, vanilla, and ripe fruits; all wrapped in balsamic and smoky notes.
On the palate, it enjoys a dry and structured attack. It develops a fresh, balanced, long, and intense journey.
Founded in 1988 by Abel Mendoza and his wife Maite Fernández, this Rioja winery, located on the left bank of the Ebro River and facing the Sierra Cantabria, began by marketing young wines made using the carbonic maceration technique under the Jarrarte brand. Their drive to develop more complex wines led them, a decade later, to focus on different vinifications from both white and red varieties, with the aim of creating wines with their own personality destined to endure over time.
The vineyards of Abel Mendoza are cultivated on rugged terrains with various compositions (clay-limestone, sandy, and stony soils) and are spread across 42 small plots that the winery harvests manually and works on throughout the year with the utmost respect for the environment.
