Buy wine from Montecillo

Bodegas Montecillo

Established in 1874, Bodegas Montecillo is based at the heart of the Rioja Alta area. The third oldest winery in Rioja, this landmark firm owned by the Osborne group combines the legacy, experience and know-how of a family-run winery with the size of a major company.

Bodegas Montecillo’s philosophy involves thorough, careful selection of the best grapes from the most coveted Rioja Alta vineyards. This standard bearer of the classical style has undergone an overhaul in recent years, leading to the creation of more up-to-date wines.

Bodegas Montecillo controls around 800 hectares of vineyards, including vines of its own and collaboration agreements with grape growers who conform to the standards established by the winery. The Reserva we bring you was grown on the finest hundred hectares, all planted with old vines. CLIMATE: Continental with Mediterranean influence and an average rainfall level of 550 mm. During harvesting the grapes benefit from sharp differences between day and night time temperature, which slow down and improve the ripening of the grapes. SOIL: The Rioja Alta is characterised by its poor, sandy-loam soils.
