General information

An estate Reserva from Rioja Alavesa, with a 25% discount

Viña Salceda is the Rioja winery of the Chivite family. The firm was founded in Navarra in 1947 and has successfully spread to other winegrowing areas such as Rioja, Rueda and Ribera del Duero.

With more than 40 years’ experience under its belt, Viña Salceda is one of the most solid firms in the Denominación de Origen. Located in Elciego, in the Rioja Alavesa subzone – the most privileged part of the region – it makes big, exquisitely aged, classical-style Riojas that linger on the palate. Its facilities, built in the style of a chateau, are among the most modern in the region.

The firm’s most special vineyard is La Tejera. Its low yield per hectare and the age of its vines, together with the painstaking attention paid throughout the winemaking process, guarantee the excellent quality of the wines produced from it. An example is this Viña Salceda La Tejera Reserva 2013, a red created solely and exclusively from Tempranillo grapes grown on the estate. Matured to perfection for 18 months in oak barrels, it is tasty and harmonious with velvety soft tannins.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Viña Salceda La Tejera 2013

Cherry-red colour with garnet at the edge, medium depth and bright.

Elegant nose of good intensity characterised by notes of cedar blended with ripe red fruit, cranberries and cherries, followed by background notes of black pepper and subtle hints of vanilla, and ending with slightly smoky notes and hints of freshly baked cookies. Tasty, harmonious and medium-bodied with smooth, silky tannins that give it a balanced mouthfeel. Notes from barrel ageing (smoky and spicy) blend beautifully with the fruitiness of the grapes. Hints of red fruit carry through to the long, lingering, complex finish.
