Description

D.O. Navarra

Covers very different areas belonging to the province of Navarra and is divided into five subzones that produce very distinct wines with their own characteristics.

Climate and Soil

Climate of Navarra:

On the lower slopes the climate is predominantly dry and subhumid, with moderate rainfall. The climate is transitional in the Ribera Alta area and dryer in the Ribera Baja, where rainfall is lower.

Navarra soils:

There are 5 subzones, with soils varying between the different regions. In the Baja Montaña (northeast of Navarra) it is gravelly and limey. In Tierra Estella (mid-west Navarra) and Valdizarbe (mid-Navarra) they are brown-lime and lime over mixed marl. Lime marl is abundant in the Ribera Alta (around the Olite area) and in the Ribera Baja (to the south of the province) the soils are grey-brown sub-desert nearer the south and brown-lime in the north.
