General information

The Eguren family is one of the most important names in the wine world. They are the creators of Teso La Monja, which is among Spain’s most expensive and prestigious wines, and other Riojas that top the international league tables such as Amancio, Finca El Bosque and La Nieta.

Founded in 1957, Sierra Cantabria is Egurens’ first winery. Marcos Eguren – who belongs to the fourth generation of the family – took over the firm in 1980, embarking on the path to high quality. Together with his brother Miguel Ángel, he later started up a number of wineries that spearheaded the wine revolution in Rioja in the 1990s.

Sierra Cantabria Crianza is the firm’s most iconic wine. It is made from Tempranillo grapes grown on the winery’s own vineyards located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, exceptional enclaves where this variety is cultivated. It is a great way of getting to know the Egurens’ Riojas. Aged for 16 months in oak barrels, it has an intense nose and a tasty palate and is well-balanced, moreish and pleasant to drink with a creamy, dairy mouthfeel and ripe tannins. Nice long finish with hints of fine woods.
