General information

92 Parker points for a super-classic Rioja

With a 92-point score from wine guru Robert Parker, Viña Cubillo Crianza 2009 is a red that is unique in its kind. Aged as long as a Gran Reserva, it fully embraces the concept of classic Rioja wine. Finesse with a capital F.

There is no doubt that Viña Cubillo Crianza 2009 is unique in its kind. It is a luxurious entry-level wine made from top-quality grapes that stand up to the same barrel ageing as a Gran Reserva. Viña Cubillo Crianza fully embraces the concept of classic Rioja wine: finesse, silkiness and subtlety. A piece of craftsmanship produced from old vines that grow on the Viña Cubillas estate (Haro), which was acquired by the ancestors of the winery’s current owners.

Viña Cubillo Crianza 2009 is made from a blend of Tempranillo (70%), Garnacha (20%), Mazuelo and Graciano (10%), and all the grapes come from the winery’s own vineyards. It has been barrel aged for three years and was clarified the traditional way, using egg whites, and bottled without filtering.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Viña Cubillo 2009

Complex and elegant nose. Jammy black fruit (blackberry and cassis) together with spicy notes (nutmeg and oregano) and hints of liquorice are followed by pleasant reduction notes (leather and tobacco), and hints of smoke and cocoa, all in perfect harmony over a dairy background.

The elegance of the nose continues in the velvety palate with noble, nicely integrated tannins. Long finish with superb hints of fruit in liquor.
