Jimenez Landi Garnacha 2016

Month's Selection January 2018

The latest wine revolution in Spain

The Club brings you an exceptional wine from Jiménez-Landi, a winery praised by leading international critics and the architect behind the comeback of Garnacha.

The winegrowing areas near the Gredos mountains have been enjoying the limelight thanks to the quality of their single-variety wines made from Garnacha grapes. In this region in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, which has a history of cultivating this variety, the altitude – between 600 and 1,100 metres – and the sandy and granitic soils afford the grapes an extraordinary freshness and acidity that adds balance to the wines of the D.O. Méntrida.

Jiménez-Landi is among the firms responsible for the brilliant comeback staged by the Garnacha grape through red wines like the one we are offering you. This winery started out in 2004 with the launch of a new project based on reinterpreting this grape variety through ecological and biodynamic farming. Less concerned with concentration and potency, Jiménez-Landi focused on bringing out this variety’s fresher, subtler and more elegant side with resounding success. What is more, the high scores Robert Parker has always awarded its wines have given a huge boost to the international reputation of this small winery with a limited output.

Jiménez-Landi Garnacha 2016 is a perfect example of how the Garnacha variety fares in the Méntrida region. It is a different Garnacha – deeply elegant and set off by a small percentage of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Eight months in French oak have turned it into a superb red that is tasty, refreshing, highly aromatic and supple.
