Finca La Emperatriz Cuvée Especial Reserva 2013

Month's Selection December 2017

The latest wonder from Rioja

We bring you a Rioja exclusively for members, designed from the vineyard by the oenologists of Vinoselección and Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz.

Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz is one of the trendiest and most innovative wineries of Spain’s most international Denominación de Origen, Rioja. Its wines have been awarded high scores by international critics like Robert Parker, James Suckling and Tim Atkin, among others. Vinoselección is therefore delighted to be able to offer you a red wine that has been custom made for club members: Finca La Emperatriz Cuvée Especial Reserva 2013.

Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz was established just over two decades ago by brothers Eduardo and Víctor Hernáiz on an estate they owned in Baños de Rioja. This unique plot, which spans slightly more than 100 hectares, is the centrepiece of Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz’s latest grape growing and winemaking venture. It is located between the Demanda and Cantabrian mountains at an altitude of 570 m above sea level and is divided into blocks to afford greater personality to each of the grape varieties the Hernáiz brothers cultivate. This is precisely the key to the winery’s success – this vineyard and state-of-the-art oenology that is respectful with the terroir and tailored to each plot for separate vinification.

Embracing this noble philosophy, Vinoselección’s oenologists designed a wine exclusively for club members. This “special cuvee” – a term that denotes the best wine made from a particular vintage – was selected by our technical experts, who worked with the firm’s team of oenologist at the vineyard over a 30-month period, choosing the most suitable varieties, plots and barrels. The result is a carefully aged red made from Tempranillo grapes grown on four plots, plus a slight touch of Viura.
