Estancia Piedra Lagarona Crianza 2013

Month's Selection February 2018

A sublime Crianza packed with the character of Toro

Vinoselección brings you an outstanding Crianza made by one of the most active and cutting-edge wineries of the D.O. Toro.

Excited by the potential of the D.O. Toro, Scottish lawyer Grant Stein and his wife Anne established the winery Estancia Piedra in the 1990s. They chose one of the best estates in the area, located on the banks of the river Duero, to start up their undertaking. Estancia Piedra is the largest estate that cultivates old vines in the D.O. Toro. These valuable assets consist of 35 hectares of ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines planted in 1968 and divided into different plots in accordance with the variations in the soil types.

The vinification facilities, which are located only a few metres away from the vineyards and employ ultramodern technology, produce wines that have been praised by the sector. These wines enhance the varietal characteristics of the traditional grapes of the Duero and are designed by one of the most reputed Spanish oenologists: José Hidalgo.

From this firm we bring you Estancia Piedra Lagarona Crianza 2013, an assemblage chiefly of Tinta de Toro grapes grown on old vines that were planted in 1968 on the Pago Estancia Piedra. This red has been created exclusively for the Club. The grapes were picked by hand and the bunches were sorted at both vineyard and winery to ensure that only the finest ingredients go into making this red, which has been aged for 12 months in oak casks.
