General information

The best-known wine from Bodega Enate

It is hard to explain the development Somontono wines have undergone without mentioning Enate, a firm that is enjoying success with its seductive, modern wines. Enate Crianza is the ‘younger brother’ of Enate’s reds and also the best known. We are offering you the latest vintage: Enate Crianza 2014.

Enate Crianza 2014 is a broad-spectrum wine that is easy to drink and evidences the fantastic job the winery does with both native and foreign grape varieties. It is made chiefly from Spain’s star grape, Tempranillo, enhanced with the world’s most desired red variety, the French Cabernet Sauvignon. Nine months in American (the Tempranillo) and French (the Cabernet Sauvignon) oak barrels followed by a long period in the bottle have beautifully rounded off a wine that is now a classic in the Somontano region.

Enate started out with its sights set on quality and has never strayed from this path. When the Nozaleda family began building the winery in 1991, the D.O. Somontano was hardly known to wine lovers. It was not until Enate and other major firms were established in the early 1990s that the quality of Somontano wines rose substantially. Enate rapidly became a leader among the wine trailblazers: it was one of the first Spanish wineries to invest a huge sum in a state-of-the-art architectural design for its spectacular facilities.

This concern with innovation and modern technology is coupled with a focus on foreign varieties – a winning bet judging by how well grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah have adapted to this region. Enate also own an impressive 500 hectares of vineyards from which they produce a broad range of wines following the guidelines of oenologist Jesús Artajona, who has been involved with the winery ever since it started out. Enate Crianza 2014 is perfect with char-grilled baby lamb chops.

Gorgeous shade of ripe cherry-red with the same colour at the edge, good depth.

Intense, elegant nose with initial notes of jammy forest fruit (blackberry, strawberry, raspberry and cranberry) together with spicy aromas (oregano and pepper) and balsamic hints (liquorice).

Smooth, velvety palate with ripe tannins that are nicely blended into the overall flavour and a refreshing acidic bite. Lingering finish with superb hints of vanilla.
