General information

Discover the D.O. Montsant with this spectacular red

We bring you Blau 2015, an interesting and characteristic red from the D.O Montsant, made by one of the region’s most important wineries.

A neighbour of the prestigious D.O. Priorat, the emerging D.O. Montsant is gaining a reputation as one of the most promising up-and-coming winemaking regions of Spain. Located in the northeast of the country, it is surrounded by a group of mountains that shelter it from coastal influence, resulting in marked contrasts between daytime and night-time temperatures at the moment the grapes ripen. This difference helps raise the level of polyphenols in the grapes, leading to sound, well-structured wines. In recent years the high quality of this D.O.’s wines and their excellent value for money has drawn the attention of international wine critics and earned them the highest scores and a host of recognitions at the most prestigious wine competitions.

The red we are offering you, Blau 2015, is made by the Can Blau winery, which belongs to the Gil family. The firm currently owns 35 hectares of superb vines with an average age of 40 years. Its recipe for success is based on limiting the yield of its vines, allowing nature to take its course each year and avoiding unnecessary intervention. Blau 2015 is a blend of the traditional Garnacha and Cariñena varieties with a small percentage of Syrah. It has been aged for four months in French oak barrels and is especially recommended as an accompaniment to dishes such as smoked salmon or stewed partridge.

Let yourself by seduced by the enticing Mediterranean flavour of the D.O. Montsant.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Blau 2015 2015

Intense cherry-red with very good depth.

Clean, intense robe with prominent aromas of ripe red and black fruit, wild fruit, hints of Mediterranean forest, spicy and balsamic (eucalyptus) notes and elegant undertones of flowers and damp earth. Very tasty, big palate with an acidic bite. Aromatic, fruity (red fruit) mouthfeel with pleasant balsamic hints and a long, deep finish.

Enjoy with wild mushrooms, white meats, stewed lentils and oxtail.
