General information

The freshest version of the Monastrell grape

Fancy discovering one of the best wines of the up-and-coming D.O. Jumilla? Don’t miss this exquisite single-variety Monastrell.

Paraje Las Chozas 2016 is a red with huge personality that is made in the northern part of the D.O. Jumilla and is hailed by critics as one of the region’s best wines. The grapes from which it is produced are grown on a single plot planted with Monastrell vines between 35 and 50 years old. Modern in style, it is refreshing, tasty and very well balanced with a powerful fruity character.

HISTORY OF THE WINERY Established in 1948, Viña Elena has evolved technologically but without forsaking respect for the family legacy and tradition. The firm’s work is underpinned by the experience that comes from four generations of constant progress. Today this winery is run by Elena Pacheca, who, together with her friend Isio Ramos, started up Bruma del Estrecho de Marín with the aim of making estate wines from the Monastrell variety.

ZONA DE PRODUCCIÓN Viña Elena controls a total of 400 hectares of vineyards, 100 hectares of which it owns. CLIMATE: Mediterranean with continental influence characterised by major differences between day and night-time temperatures during the harvesting season. SOIL: These vineyards are unusual in that some areas have large deposits of stones and are very limey and pebbly, whereas others are sandier and infuse the wine with fresh, elegant nuances.
