General information

A great Ribera with critical acclaim

From one of the best vintages of the twenty-first century in Ribera del Duero, that of 2011, Protos Reserva 2011, made by the prestigious Protos winery, is an impeccably crafted wine that has received high scores from critics.

Protos is a major winery whose work ethic is underpinned by quality, and it is well aware that this requires using only the best grapes. Therefore, although the rules of the Denominación de Origen allow yields of up to 7,000 kg of grapes per hectare, Protos’s established maximum is 5,000 kg. Their huge grape production enables them to assign each bunch to a particular type of wine. Protos Reserva 2011 comes from valuable old Tempranillo vines and has been awarded high scores by specialised critics.

This red comes from one of the most exceptional vintages witnessed in recent years in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, and has been aged for 18 months in barrels and a further 24 months in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Protos 2011

Attractive ripe cherry-red with brick-red hues at the edge, medium to high intensity.

Highly fragrant and elegant nose with initial aromas of forest fruit (raspberry and blackberry) together with balsamic, spicy (bay leaf) and scrubland notes, followed by delicate dairy touches and ending with pleasant hints of dark-roast coffee and cocoa.

Silky, elegant and balanced palate with noble, nicely blended tannins. Long finish marked by the spicy notes detected in the nose.
