General information

A “top” born only in Excellent vintages

Protos Gran Reserva 2011 is a combination of harmony, elegance and subtlety based on the clear expression of an excellent Tempranillo in this excellent vintage with optimal aging and balance. A great wine from one of the biggest wineries in the Ribera del Duero region.

Protos Gran Reserva 2011 is a masterpiece, awarded with a Gold Medal in the Brussels International Wine Contest 2017. The Protos winery, one of the main ambassadors of the Ribera del Duero region internationally, creates its Gran Reserva only using Excellent vintages, such as that of 2011.

The exceptionalism of Protos Gran Reserva 2011 is due to multiple causes. First of all, the raw material: it is created using Tempranillo grapes (100%) which are 60 years old, which give low yields with a high quality, and which are harvested by hand; in a single, that of 2011, classified as Excellent in the Ribera del Duero Appellation. Once in the winery, the grape punches pass through the selection table. To this, we add an appropriate aging of 24 months in barrels made of French oak (80%) and American oak (20%) and 36 months in the bottle. The result is simply spectacular.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Protos 2011

Uniform cherry-red colour, good depth, vivid and brilliant.

On the nose it is concentrated, fragrant and very intense; what stands out first of all are notes of black fruit jam (blackberries and plums), elegant hues of fine wood (cedar), hints of spices (black pepper); later there appear elegant smoky and toasted cedar notes, finish with abundant hints of cacao and balsamic undertones (liquorice).

On the palate it is balanced, silky, with a great balance of acidity-body-alcohol; tannins with excellent quality, aging and nobility which make it well bodied, strong and long-lived on the palate. Long aftertaste where there appear notes of spices and aged black fruit.
