General information

Cerro Añón, icon of Rioja

One of the most award-winning wines of the best-known Spanish DO.

Four decades after its foundation, Bodegas Olarra has become an example of expertise in Rioja wine, a benchmark for the most traditional style. In addition, for some years now it has been one of the best-thought of firms in this DO, and its wines are among the most award-winning, such as Añares Reserva and Cerro Añón Crianza.

But undoubtedly its iconic wine is Cerro Añón Reserva, awarded the Gold Medal in the Bacchus awards and the International Wine Challenge (2009 vintage); and at the Berliner Wein Trophy (2010 and 2011). It scored 92 and 90 points, respectively, from the prestigious publication Wine Spectator for its 2010 and 2012 vintages, among others. This is the typical La Rioja combination dominated by Tempranillo and finished off for 20 months in American oak - and now you can buy it through Vinoselección.

You can’t miss this exceptional Reserve, made from the finest fruit of the 2013 vintage and its only available at Vinoselección.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Cerro Añón 2013

An attractive cherry red colour with notes on the rim between pale garnet and terracotta.

In the nose, with its aromatic intensity it displays aromas of red fruits in liqueur (fresh and sour cherry), followed by a balsamic series that starts off with liquorice root and soft menthol echoes. Later, the toasted cedar notes merge with spicy clove memories, ends their aromatic journey with delicate nuances of roasted cocoa.

On the palate it is full-flavoured, well structured, with a great acidity that gives it a smooth finish and good ageing in the bottle. In the mouth we highlight the candied red fruit with spicy and balsamic echoes. Long and persistent finish marked by memories of red stone fruit.
