General information

The thrill of a dream come true

As Spain’s leading wine club, Vinoselección is proud to present one of the most keenly awaited Rioja wines: Marqués de Vargas Gran Reserva 2010.

As long-standing friends of Bodegas Marqués de Vargas, we have been invited by this winery to take part in the exclusive launch of its coveted Gran Reserva. We are convinced you will be bowled over by this spectacular wine, which reflects all the complexity and elegance of the personality of Rioja.

This wine is not only a dream come true for Vinoselección but also the cherished ambition of Hilario de la Mata, 10th Marquis of Vargas. Hailing from a family devoted to making and selling wine for several generations, the marquis always wanted to have a winery of his own. Although he did not succeed in his own lifetime, he instilled this passion in his children, who fulfilled his dream years later.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Marques de Vargas 2010

Cherry-red colour of good intensity with garnet hues at the edge.

On the nose a fine reduction bouquet appears with spicy aromas from oxidative ageing. When the glass is swirled, woody notes subtly infused with mature aromas of black fruit develop. Leathery, meaty, woody and aromatic coffee aromas together with hints of orange peel, and fairly balsamic undertones (dried leaves, undergrowth).

Sweet and bitter flavours in the mouth, a lingering spicy mid-palate and notable balance and length, with aromas reminiscent of the nose. Complex within its traditional style.
