Canalizo 2013 is the top wine made by Bodegas Carchelo, a leading name on the wine scene in southeast Spain.

Bodegas Carchelo, located at the foot of the Sierra del Carche, have spearheaded Jumilla’s radical shift towards making wines of a high standard. They were one of the first wineries to embrace respect for the terroir, the use of cutting-edge technology to ensure quality wines, and care in selecting suitable barrels in which to age them. Ever since Carchelo started out in 1990, this approach has been applauded by international critics. But although Carchelo had turned Monastrell into one of the great Spanish grapes, there was still much work to be done in the D.O. Jumilla. This work has been repeated vintage after vintage and we now bring you their flagship wine, Canalizo 2013, a top red in the D.O. Jumilla made from Monastrell grapes expertly blended with Syrah and Tempranillo. The result is a real gem of a wine from southeast Spain but more international in style.

Cherry-red with a purplish edge, very good depth of colour.

Complex, expressive and elegant nose with aromas of black fruit, spice, liquorice, chocolate and bonbon, followed by balsamic, dark-roast and cigar sensations.

Good structure and body, dry and full on the palate. Great balance and firm tannins not yet fully mellowed, good acidity and a long finish with aromas of superb fine wood.
