General information

A best-selling Rioja Crianza

Campillo Crianza 2014(100% Tempranillo) is grown on vineyards in Rioja Alavesa from grapes with a magnificent acidity that are well suited to long ageing periods. Indeed, this wine was barrel aged for 18 months – longer than stipulated by the regulatory board of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Nice intense nose, easy to drink, beautifully balanced palate, tasty, refreshing, pleasing, with a silky and creamy mouthfeel, aromatic and an intense finish. Highly representative of Rioja Alavesa.

Campillo (1990) is one of the firms that have left a mark on modern Rioja wines and one of the most representative wineries of Rioja Alavesa. Located in Laguardia, at the heart of Rioja Alavesa, it is regarded as the most exclusive ‘boutique’ winery belonging to Grupo Faustino: one of the country’s largest wine groups run by a winemaking family with a century of experience. With Campillo, Julio Faustino Martínez fulfilled his dream of creating an innovative winery in the style of a French château based on a building surrounded by vineyards. Campillo was also one of the first wineries with a state-of-the-art architectural design.

Campillo sets out to make wines that are the highest expression of the Tempranillo variety. To achieve this aim, Grupo Faustino decided to locate its winery in Laguardia, where it purchased 50 hectares of vineyards and subsequently acquired a further 50 near the Cantabrian mountains. Spanning a total of 100 hectares, its vines grow on poor soils, producing small yields of very well-structured grapes with good acidity which are perfect for making expressive wines that can be aged for long periods in oak. Campillo Crianza 2014 is a perfect match for stewed and roast meats, lamb chops, fatty fish and Ibérico cold cuts.
