Ramón Raventós, who hails from a distinguished family of winemakers, is the creator of Basagoiti, a winery located in Rioja Oriental (the eastern part) and now, following a decade of existence, one of the most important names among the new generation of Rioja firms. Basagoiti Reserva 2014 is notable for its perfect balance between fruity notes and flavours from ageing.

Restoring the best traditions of each area and creating wines packed with fruit are the two principles that guide the work of Ramón Raventós Basagoiti, who hails from a family with centuries of winemaking experience under its belt. In 2007 he founded Bodegas Basagoiti in Azagra, in the Rioja Oriental subzone, where he aims for lower yields from his vines in pursuit of ripeness, concentration and subtlety – qualities that are all found in Basagoiti Reserva 2014.

This Reserva was grown on vineyards located in Rioja Oriental, in the districts of Azagra, Alfaro, San Adrián, Andosilla and Aldeanueva de Ebro. The soil there is calcareous-clay with pebbles and the vines are 20 to 25 years old on average. The varieties that go into making this wine are Tempranillo (mainly), Graciano and also Garnacha, which lends it ripeness and a moreish touch.

Ramón Raventós Basagoiti is at the helm of Gleva Estates group who own a number of wineries apart from Basagoiti: Parxet (DO Cava), Mont Ferrant (DO Cava), Titiana (D.O. Alella), Basagoiti (DOCa Rioja), Marqués de Alella (D.O. Alella), Raventós d’Alella (D.O. Alella), Portal del Montsant (DO Montsant) and Tionio (D.O. Ribera de Duero). Basagoiti Reserva 2014 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with dishes such as Madrid-style tripe, meat stews and Ibérico pork cold cuts.
