General information

A classy Garnacha

Discover a red exclusively for members, Atteca Cuvée Especial 2016.

The Gils are one of the most celebrated families of winegrowers in southeast Spain. Juan Gil Bodegas Familiares have been making wines from old Garnacha vines planted on slate-rich soils at their Aragonese winery in Ateca since 2005. The firm’s philosophy is to make wines of a high standard from the region’s best Garnacha vines under the guidance of reputed Australian oenologist Michael Kyberd. From this winery we bring you Atteca Cuvée Especial 2016, an ode to the Garnacha variety, which Vinoselección’s oenologists helped design. After the best Garnacha vines are selected the grapes are picked by hand in small crates plot by plot at their optimum phenolic and sugar ripeness. At the winery the bunches are vinified in small stainless-steel vats. When this stage is complete the wine is aged for ten months in French and American oak barrels before being bottled and presented exclusively to the club’s members.

Tasting Notes

Profile sheet Atteca Cuvée Especial 2016

Cherry-red with garnet hues at the edge, good depth of colour.

Fine, intense nose with prominent aromas of red fruit (raspberry and cranberry), jammy and floral notes, hints of red liquorice and a pleasant toasty background of coffee and spice.

Very tasty and balanced on the palate with an acidic edge that makes it pleasantly refreshing. Moreish, fruity mouthfeel and a long, aromatic finish.
